Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was warmly welcomed on Tuesday at the Denpasar International Airport in Bali, Indonesia, where he will attend and participate in the Bali Democracy Forum V.
This is the fifth year since the BDF was established to promote the qualities of true democracy.
It is with this view in mind, the Government ofIndonesia initiated in 2008, the intergovernmental Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) as an annual forum of foreign ministers from Asia-Pacific countries that are democratic or are aspiring to be more democratic.
“Papua New Guinea like Indonesia believes that democracy is a key element in the promotion of peace and stability in the region,” Mr O’Neill said.
He said many nations in the region accept that the universality of democratic values, such as the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and a shared adherence to these values, should help consolidate peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Upon arrival, Mr O’Neill and his entourage were officially received by the PNG Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Commodore Peter Ilau along with respective Indonesian government officials.
The Prime Minister said he appreciated the sincere welcome by the Indonesian Government and agreed that this earnest reception illustrated the robust and cordial relationship between PNG and Indonesia.
On Wednesday (7/11/12), he visited three plant sites at the invitation of Indonesian Energy Giant – Energy World, in the South Sulawesi Province, to observe and assess the progress of the plant, which is similar to various proposed LNG and electricity projects in PNG.
Mr O’Neill is accompanied by Ministers for State Enterprises, Ben Micah, Justice and Attorney-General, Kerenga Kua and Member for Henganofi, Robert Atiyafa, along with PNG Power Limited’s CEO.
