THE Multi million Kina Chinese Aided International Convention centre Project in Port Moresby is set to begin following the groundbreaking Ceremony on Tuesday.
The Chinese Government is assisting in setting up one of PNG’s landmark building which will be completed in two years time, just before the Pacific Games.
The project is situated right before the National Museum and the Parliament, which used to be vacant land.
The Contractor is China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic & Technical Cooperation (CJIC), a large scale Chinese state-owned contractor.
This project is estimated to be at a cost of K20 million to K70 million according to the Country manager of the CJIC, Johnny Huang.
The Chinese Ambassador to PNG Qiu Bohua said this project is so far China’s largest Single Aid Project in PNG and the Pacific.
“When it is completed, it will not only become a new landmark complementing the existing Parliament building in NCD but also a new symbol of the China –PNG bilateral relationship.
“I’m very happy and look forward to CJIC for a high quality construction and hope the PNG Government and the
NMAG will also facilitate the construction by ensuring security and convenience,” he added.
The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Boka Kondra on behalf of the PNG Government, expressed his gratitude to the government of the Peoples Republic of China.
The International Convention Centre once completed will be a property of the NMAG and will host national and international events including cultural events and activities.
